Police have arrested Mehedi Hasan Maruf, 24, the prime accused in his wife’s murder case, from Kushtia Sadar with the help of information technology.
According to police, Maruf married Afsana Akter Snigdha, 21, about six months ago while living abroad. After returning to Bangladesh, they began living in a rented house in Gazipur as his family did not accept the marriage. He allegedly subjected her to physical and mental abuse over family disputes.
Snigdha was last heard from on September 18. The following day, her family found her dead inside her room. Relatives alleged that Maruf fled with his belongings around 10 AM that day.
Her father filed a murder case with Pubail Police Station, alleging that Maruf suffocated her with a pillow.
Police arrested Maruf from Kushtia Sadar around 1:25 AM on October 17. Police said he confessed to the killing during preliminary interrogation, and the court granted a two-day remand.
