Student leader’s wife killed in Cox’s Bazar fire

Nasrin Akter Mukta, wife of Dhaka district Chhatra Dal Vice-President Dewan Faisal, was killed in a fire at a resort in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday morning.

The fire broke out around 7 AM at Tup Tup Resort and Restaurant near Patuyartek beach along Marine Drive in Ukhiya.

Mukta, a schoolteacher at Swapnabilash Niribili School in Ashulia, had visited Cox’s Bazar with two childhood friends on Thursday. They were scheduled to return to Savar on Sunday.

Faisal said Mukta’s two friends left the resort on Saturday morning, but she remained inside. “She was supposed to return on Sunday, but she left us forever before that,” he said.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Atikur Rahman Majumder said the cause of the fire was yet to be determined.

Fire Service officials said 10 bodies had been recovered from the fire site.
