Man gets life term for possessing Tk 25 lakh worth of heroin

A Dhaka court on Saturday sentenced Md Mohiuddin to life imprisonment in a case involving the seizure of 250 grams of heroin worth Tk 25 lakh in Postogola, Kadamtali.

Judge Md Khorshed Alam of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court-7 also fined him Tk 10,000, with six months of simple imprisonment in default.

Mohiuddin was brought to court from jail for the verdict and sent back to prison afterward.

According to the prosecution, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) arrested him during a raid near Eagle Box and Carton Manufacturing Company Ltd on the Postogola-Pagla road around 1:05am on November 23, 2021. Three packets containing 250 grams of heroin were allegedly recovered from a shopping bag in his possession.

A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Police submitted the charge sheet on January 21, 2022 and the court framed charges on April 11, 2023.

During the trial, nine of the 14 prosecution witnesses testified.
