A mobile court has imposed a total fine of Tk. 1.5 million (15 lakh) on 3 brick kilns in Mohammadpur Upazila, Magura, for violating the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act.
During an operation conducted on Saturday (October 17), the three establishments—Messrs Shimanta Bricks, Messrs Nodi Bricks, and Messrs Naba Bricks—were each fined Tk. 500,000 (5 lakh).
According to the district administration, the fines were issued under Sections 14, 15, and 16 of the Act, as the kilns had violated Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the amended Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013.
The mobile court was led by Aminul Islam, an Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the district administration. Kamal Kumar Barman, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment in Magura, served as the prosecutor. Personnel from the police, Fire Service, Ansar, and the Department of Environment were present during the operation.
Local residents noted that the establishment and operation of brick kilns in violation of the law have adverse effects on the environment, agricultural land, and public health. Therefore, in addition to imposing fines, it is essential to regularly monitor these kilns and ensure they operate in compliance with the law.
Meanwhile, concerned citizens have called for the verification of the legal status of brick kilns in Mohammadpur and other parts of Magura district, as well as for strengthened, ongoing surveillance, in the interest of environmental protection and public welfare.
