Youth’s body recovered from Kaptai

Police and divers from the Fire Service recovered the body of a 19-year-old youth from Kaptai Lake in Rangamati on Saturday, with stones reportedly tied to it. Police have detained Shafik, the owner of the fishing boat where the victim worked, on suspicion over the incident.

The body of Arafat was recovered from the lake near Joratila in Shuvolong Union under Barkal upazila on Saturday afternoon, October 17. According to police, the body was found at a location identified by Shafik.

The cause of Arafat’s death and whether anyone else was involved are being investigated, police said.

Local sources said Arafat had been missing since the night of October 13. He worked as a labourer on Shafik’s fishing boat, mainly pulling keski fishing nets.

Following his disappearance, efforts were launched to find him. Shafik and others also reportedly joined the search. Later, a dive team from Rangamati Fire Service searched different areas of Kaptai Lake.
