Zimbabwe handed Bangladesh a 99-run defeat in the opening ODI, with Craig Ervine’s 93 and Brad Evans’ four-wicket haul guiding the hosts to a comprehensive victory.
Batting first, Zimbabwe posted 271 for eight in their allotted 50 overs after recovering from an early collapse. Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed struck three times to reduce the hosts to 24 for three, but Ervine and Brendan Taylor rebuilt the innings with a crucial 150-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Ervine scored 93 off 106 balls, while Taylor contributed 81 off 101 deliveries. Their partnership laid the foundation for Zimbabwe’s competitive total, with Ervine later named Player of the Match for his outstanding contribution.
In reply, Bangladesh struggled to maintain momentum and were bowled out for 172 in 33.4 overs. Brad Evans claimed four wickets to lead Zimbabwe’s bowling attack, while Sikandar Raza picked up two wickets to seal a convincing victory for the hosts.
Taskin finished as Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker with three scalps, but the visitors’ batting failure proved costly. Bangladesh will need a stronger performance with the bat to bounce back from the defeat.
