Attorney General Ruhul Kuddus Kajol announced that special initiatives have been taken for the speedy hearing of the appeals in the Appellate Division regarding the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder, Major Sinha murder, and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad murder cases.
He shared this information on Sunday (October 18). The Attorney General said that these three high-profile murder cases have been awaiting hearings in the Appellate Division following High Court verdicts. Swift hearings will be arranged once the court reopens after the vacation.
The Narayanganj seven-murder, Major Sinha murder, and Abrar Fahad murder cases rank among the most discussed homicides in the country. Following trial court judgments, the High Court delivered verdicts upholding the sentences, and the cases are currently pending before the Appellate Division.
On August 22, 2017, the High Court delivered its verdict in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case, upholding the death sentences of 15 out of 26 convicts awarded by the trial court. The case has remained pending in the Appellate Division for a long period.
On the other hand, the High Court delivered its verdict in the Major Sinha murder case on June 2, 2025. That ruling upheld the death sentences of Pradeep Kumar Das, dismissed officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station, and Liaquat Ali, former inspector of Baharchhara police investigation center. The case has been awaiting an appeal hearing since the High Court ruling.
Additionally, the High Court announced its verdict in the BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case on March 16, 2025. That judgment upheld the death sentences of 20 convicts and life imprisonment for five others given by the trial court. This case is also awaiting a hearing in the Appellate Division.
