Foodpanda is facing mounting criticism from restaurant owners in Chattogram over commissions, additional charges, delayed payments and penalties, with at least 120 restaurants reportedly boycotting the food delivery platform, according to the Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association's Chattogram metropolitan unit.

The dispute has also sparked allegations that the platform is using a public relations agency to influence media coverage and suppress critical reports. However, the supplied information contains no documentary evidence or specific examples independently substantiating the allegation.

Restaurant owners claim that commissions, advertising expenses and other fees can collectively account for 30 to 35 per cent of sales in some cases. They have also raised concerns over delayed payments, rider waiting charges and financial losses arising from cancelled orders and customer refunds.

The Chattogram metropolitan unit of the Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association said the charges were squeezing profit margins, particularly for small and medium-sized restaurants. The organisation has demanded that commissions and other charges be capped at 15 per cent and that outstanding payments be settled within seven days.

Association General Secretary Manjurul Haque said at least 120 restaurants had already joined the boycott, warning that more establishments could follow.

Responding to the dispute, Foodpanda said it operates under individual agreements with restaurant partners and is holding direct discussions to address their concerns. The company also warned that suspending its services could affect restaurant sales, delivery riders' earnings and customers' access to the service.

Restaurant owners, meanwhile, continue to demand lower commissions and fees, timely payments, and a review of policies on penalties and waiting charges. Some restaurants are reportedly exploring alternative delivery platforms and expanding direct-order services.
