Pakistani forces and Afghan Taliban fighters have exchanged fire at several points along the border, with Pakistan reportedly shelling Taliban positions in Upper Kurram and Ghozgarhi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pakistani security sources claimed that artillery strikes destroyed several Taliban positions, including the Shipola base camp, and killed some fighters. The claims could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, Afghan media reported intense clashes near Dand Patan district in Paktia province, where rockets allegedly struck a residential area. The extent of damage and civilian casualties remained unclear.
Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency claimed that at least seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in the fighting, but the claim was not independently verified and Pakistan had not officially confirmed it.
The latest clashes come amid persistent tensions over Islamabad’s allegations that armed groups operate from Afghan territory, an accusation the Taliban government has rejected.
