Cabinet has given approval in principle to relocating the Bangladesh Secretariat to the former trade fair ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, and constructing a new Secretariat complex.
It has also approved a proposal to rename the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs as the Ministry of Women and Children.
The cabinet also approved the draft Special Solar Power Installation Ordinance, 2026, both in principle and in final form, and endorsed Bangladesh’s accession to the Rotterdam Convention on international trade in hazardous chemicals and pesticides.
The decisions were taken at the 25th Cabinet meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.
According to the Cabinet’s decision, 14 12-storey buildings, including three basement levels, will be constructed on approximately 31.58 acres of land in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The complex will have around 3.316 million square feet of office space, parking facilities for 3,800 vehicles, a mosque, two multipurpose halls, a cafeteria and a post office. Approximately 30 per cent of the project area will be allocated to green spaces and water bodies.
