Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaed Islam has said the government will be able to provide details about the execution of two Bangladeshis in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, after receiving copies of the court verdict.

She made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (October 19).

The state minister said many Bangladeshis were serving prison sentences in different parts of Saudi Arabia. The country regularly sends lists of detained Bangladeshis to the government, and the ministry is reviewing the information.

“This is an incident from 2023. We are trying to contact the families. Please be patient. We will be able to provide details once we receive copies of the verdict,” she said.

Criticising the ousted Awami League government, Shama said that, for the first time in Bangladesh’s history, the prime minister, the entire cabinet and even the khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque had fled the country within half a day.

She added that discussing Sheikh Hasina was nothing more than a waste of time.
