Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has claimed that no BNP activist is involved in extortion, saying the government has also stopped mob justice across the country.

“I can say with great pride that no worker of my party is involved in any kind of extortion,” he said at an exchange of views with local business owners and transport workers in Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa on Monday morning.

The meeting was organised by the upazila and municipal BNP at the party office at 7:00 AM on 19 October. Representatives of shop owners’ associations and van, rickshaw, easy-bike and Mahindra transport workers attended.

Asaduzzaman said mob justice had been stopped in Shailkupa and elsewhere in the country. He added that people with different political opinions would not be allowed to face mob justice.

He said the government had pledged from its first day in office to take legal action against looting, injustice and terrorism over the previous 17 years, stressing that no one should take the law into their own hands.

The minister also claimed that recruitment-related corruption, including appointments in exchange for money, had been stopped. He said recruitment efforts were now focused on candidates with the necessary skills and ability to work.

He assured those present that every amount allocated in his name would be distributed transparently, down to the last penny. He reiterated that no BNP activist in Shailkupa was involved in extortion.

Shailkupa Upazila BNP president Abul Hossain, general secretary Humayun Babar Firoz, businessman Prabir Kumar Saha Bidyut, Shailkupa Bazar Shop Owners’ Association convener and municipal BNP president Abu Taleb Mia, and association member secretary and municipal BNP general secretary Selim Reza Thandu were present at the meeting.
