Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited a local puja mandap in Rangpur today to exchange greetings with the Hindu community on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja, the primary religious festival of Bengali Hindus.

The Prime Minister arrived at the Dharmasabha (Radha Govinda Temple) puja mandap around 12:00 PM on Tuesday (October 20). Upon his arrival, devotional songs were performed to welcome the head of government.

The Prime Minister's visit sparked significant enthusiasm among local Hindu devotees, as well as members of the BNP and its associate organizations. Residents characterized the decision of the head of government to travel outside Dhaka to join public celebrations in the northern region as a rare gesture of communal harmony.

Jiban Ghosh, a devotee attending celebrations at the Sri Sri Kalibari Temple, expressed his delight, saying, "We never anticipated that the Prime Minister would come to Rangpur, exchange greetings, and inspect mandaps with us. Many of us waited to see him in person, and we hope this visit fosters joy and unity."

Partha Bose, President of the Radha Govinda Temple, remarked, "We are immensely joyful that the Prime Minister visited our temple in Rangpur to observe firsthand how Sharadiya Durga Puja is celebrated in this region. This is not only a privilege for local devotees but also stands as a bright example of communal harmony."

According to district administration and law enforcement sources, comprehensive security measures were enforced across Rangpur for the visit.

Security personnel from the Special Security Force (SSF), Police, RAB, and Ansar were deployed alongside volunteer teams at the mandaps, while additional checkpoints were established at city entry points.

Local residents noted that the Prime Minister's presence outside the capital to share festival greetings directly with local communities serves as an encouraging sign for interfaith harmony in the region.
