The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has made it mandatory for all motorcycle owners to install manually made registration number plates on the front of their vehicles by November 15, 2026.
According to a public notice issued by the BRTA headquarters in Banani, the decision comes under the provisions of the Road Transport Act, 2018, and the Road Transport Rules, 2022. While current laws require official RFID-tagged retro-reflective metal plates at the rear, the government has now decided to mandate front display as well.
Motorcyclists must make necessary arrangements at their own expense in line with specific government criteria.
How and Where to Make the Front Plate
Bikers do not need to wait for BRTA office issuance for front plates. They must make the plates manually through local standard metal or sign workshops. The plates must strictly be made of stainless steel or aluminium sheet.
The background of the plate must be plain white, with registration marks written clearly in black Bangla characters and numbers. No decorative art, patterns, or embellishments are allowed on the plate.
Specifications by Vehicle Type
For scooters, the plate dimension must be 200 mm in length and 100 mm in width. For all other regular motorcycles, the length must be 285 mm and the width 50 mm.
For all standard motorcycles, the registration mark can be displayed on a single horizontal line (for example: Dhaka Metro-L-11-1234). On both types of vehicles, the height of the Bangla letters and digits must be at least 20 mm.
Approval and Compliance
Bikers do not require individual prior approval or endorsement seals from the BRTA for these manual front plates. Compliance is verified automatically as long as the dimensions, metal composition, background color, font size, and text formatting match the published guidelines.
The regulatory authority warned that failure to attach and display the front plate by November 15, 2026, will draw strict legal actions under existing transport laws.
