The incident occurred on Tuesday (October 20) afternoon at the Dattabari CNG stand in the Uttar Chelapara area of Bogura town.

Police managed to bring the situation under control and arrested the suspect, identified as Ratan Bepari, a resident of Uttar Chelapara in Bogura Sadar upazila.

According to police, Ratan faces 28 criminal cases across various police stations, including charges of theft, narcotics, and robbery preparation. Bogura Sadar Police Station alone holds three arrest warrants against him.

The injured officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ujjwal, is currently receiving treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

The attack occurred while police patrol teams were deployed across Bogura to control traffic and ensure public security during Durga Puja festivities. Police spotted four to five pickpockets preparing to commit crimes at the CNG stand and detained Ratan.

As officers detained him, his accomplices and local relatives attacked the patrol team in an attempt to snatch him from custody, injuring Officer Ujjwal in the process.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ibrahim Ali stated that police have arrested 30 to 35 pickpockets over the past two months as part of an ongoing crackdown. He emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved in the attack on police personnel.
