The body of a Jubo Dal leader was recovered from a bus counter at Magura Bus Terminal early Wednesday, with family members alleging that he was shot dead in a planned attack.

Deceased Md Saker Hossain was the senior joint convener of Magura municipal Jubo Dal. He was the son of the late Kutub Uddin and a resident of Beparipara in the Parnanduali area of Magura municipality

Saker was found unconscious at the Royal Express transport counter around 6AM and was taken to Magura 250-Bed Hospital, where an emergency department physician declared him dead.

A puncture-like wound was found at the back of his head, raising suspicions among his relatives and local residents that he had been shot. However, police and doctors said the cause of the wound and the circumstances of his death could not be confirmed without a post-mortem examination.

Alongside his political activities, Saker worked as the counter manager at the Royal Express bus service at the terminal.

Dr Mainul Hasan, an emergency department physician at Magura 250-Bed Hospital, said several people brought Hossain to the hospital early Wednesday. Examination revealed that he had died before arrival.

The doctor confirmed that a puncture-like wound was visible at the back of Hossain’s head but said it was not possible to determine whether it had been caused by a bullet. Police were informed, and the body was kept in the hospital’s temporary morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Superintendent of Magura Police Molla Azad Hossain said police received information about the recovery of the Jubo Dal leader’s body on Wednesday morning.

The actual cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is received, he added.

Sarker Hossain’s sudden death has cast a pall of grief over his family, relatives and political associates. Family members and local residents have alleged that he was deliberately shot and killed, calling for a fair investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.

However, no conclusive evidence confirming the allegation of murder had emerged at the time of reporting.

Local sources also said that Hossain had faced 10 politically related cases at different times over the past 17 years.

Police are awaiting the post-mortem findings to determine whether the Jubo League leader was murdered or died under other circumstances.
