He said the largest number of idols would be immersed at Wiseghat.
A procession will begin at Dhakeshwari National Temple and end at Wiseghat, where the idol immersion will take place. The idols are being placed at designated locations ahead of the procession, Shahidullah said.
He said uniformed DMP personnel, along with members of the Detective Branch (DB), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), Special Response Unit (SRU), SWAT and the bomb disposal unit, had been deployed for security.
Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and SRB are also assisting with security arrangements.
Shahidullah said Durga Puja was being celebrated in Dhaka under the highest security measures and no untoward incident had been reported so far.
He expressed hope that the remaining celebrations would also pass peacefully, adding that police were fully prepared to respond to any untoward situation.
He urged city residents to cooperate with the authorities to ensure the smooth completion of the festivities and idol immersion.
