Regular DJ parties had been held for the past year at a house rented out by Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdullah Al Zahir of the Police Headquarters in Dhaka’s 300 Feet area. Participants had to register online, and most were members of affluent families and their children, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch.
DMP Detective Uttara Division Deputy Commissioner Ilias Kabir disclosed the information at his office on Wednesday.
He said police raided the house based on confidential information received from senior officials. Inside, they found a DJ party with loud music playing and around 22 vehicles parked outside. The environment was smoky due to shisha smoking.
Police found 26 young women at the house, most aged between 20 and 22. Kabir said all the detained women were students, including one from Dhaka University. The detained men included students, corporate employees and businessmen.
Online registration cost Tk 600 per person
Kabir said the parties were organised through online platforms named Airbnb and Travela. Participants registered online and paid around Tk 600 each to attend. Police also found evidence of financial transactions related to renting the house.
The party ended when police entered the building, and those present moved into different rooms. The house had five rooms.
Police recovered three bottles of alcohol, yaba and a drug identified as kush. They also seized items related to sexual health.
85 detained people sentenced
Regarding the 85 people detained from the house, Kabir said the men were sentenced to one month in prison and fined Tk 1,000 each. Those unable to pay the fine would serve an additional 15 days in prison.
The women were sentenced to 15 days in prison and fined Tk 500 each. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional three days in prison.
