Three tourists died and two others went missing after being swept away by a strong undertow while bathing in the sea at Himchari beach in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police and local sources, the tragic incident took place at around 5:30 PM near the museum adjacent to the Himchari Marina Resort.

Mohammad Soleman, In-Charge of the Himchari Police Outpost, stated that several tourists went down into the sea to bathe when they were caught in an outgoing tide and swept away.

Local residents managed to pull four individuals from the water. Three of them were pronounced dead at the scene, while another was rushed in critical condition to the Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital.

Lifeguards and fire service personnel launched a joint rescue operation to trace the two missing tourists.

The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately. Their bodies have been kept at the police outpost, while authorities continue verification efforts and ongoing rescue operations for the missing individuals.
