Educational instts to enjoy 3-day holiday in early Nov

School and college students and teachers across the country may enjoy a three-day break in early November, as the weekly holiday coincides with National Revolution and Solidarity Day and the Hindu religious festival of Shyama Puja.

According to a review of a government notification and the 2026 holiday calendar for educational institutions, November 6, 7 and 8 will offer consecutive holidays for many schools and colleges.

November 6 (Friday) is the weekly holiday. National Revolution and Solidarity Day falls on Saturday (November 7), while Shyama Puja will be observed on Sunday (November 8).

The holiday schedule means students and teachers at many schools and colleges could enjoy three consecutive days off.

According to the 2026 holiday calendar issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, government and private secondary, lower-secondary schools and colleges will remain closed for Shyama Puja.

Around 65,000 government primary schools across the country are also expected to observe the religious holiday.

However, the arrangements may differ for universities, technical institutions and madrasas.

Universities generally follow their own academic calendars and decisions by their respective authorities. The holiday schedules of Dhaka University and Rajshahi University do not list a closure for Shyama Puja, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the holiday calendar published by the Directorate of Technical Education and the Directorate of Madrasah Education does not specifically mention Shyama Puja. It therefore remains unclear whether madrasas and technical institutions will observe the same break as schools and colleges.

Students and teachers are advised to check their respective institutions' official notices for confirmation of the holiday arrangements.
