All tourists stranded in Sajek have been safely escorted to Khagrachhari amid an indefinite road blockade.

Rangamati Superintendent of Police Md Abdur Rakib confirmed this on Thursday afternoon.

The tourists left Sajek for Khagrachhari around 9AM under the escort of army and police personnel. However, they were temporarily held up along the route around 9:30AM due to the blockade before continuing their journey.

On Wednesday, the Sajek Public Rights Protection Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association announced a third round of road blockades along the Sajek tourist route, declaring an indefinite shutdown from Thursday.

In a joint statement, the organisations urged all tourists to leave Sajek by Wednesday ahead of the renewed blockade.

The disruption has also dealt a blow to local tourism businesses, with many visitors reportedly cancelling their advance resort bookings following the announcement of the blockade and the suspension of tourist entry.

The latest disruption has renewed concerns over the impact of prolonged road blockades on tourism and the livelihoods of communities in the hill region.
