Barrister Rumeen Farhana has cited 22 examples of social wrongdoing to criticise religious double standards after an image depicting her as Goddess Durga sparked controversy on social media.
In a Facebook post on Thursday (October 22), the independent MP from Brahmanbaria-2 listed offences including bribery, child abuse, murder, violence against women, fraud and corruption, arguing that such wrongdoing often goes unchallenged in the name of religion.
The controversy followed the circulation of an image linking her face with the Hindu goddess after she visited Durga Puja mandaps in Brahmanbaria. The image drew mixed reactions on social media.
Sharing the image in her post, Rumin wrote, “Mother Durga has ten arms, not eight,” adding a sarcastic remark about what she described as an ignorant society.

She concluded her list by saying that religion is questioned when people respect other religions, while wrongdoing is often overlooked.
