Top criminal Imon sued over courier office attack in Hazaribagh

A case has been filed against police-listed top criminal Sanjidul Islam Imon for allegedly ordering an attack on an AJR Courier Service warehouse and office in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh, with two people arrested in connection with the incident.

Afsar Uddin, manager of the courier service, filed the case with Hazaribagh Police Station on Wednesday night, Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain said.

A group of masked and helmeted men attacked the warehouse and office near Shikder Medical College around 6:30pm on Tuesday, allegedly vandalising the premises and looting electronic equipment.

According to the allegations, the attackers threatened to collect rent for the property on Imon’s behalf. They also allegedly took laptops, CCTV cameras and the digital video recorder (DVR) containing surveillance footage.

Police reached the scene after receiving a call through the national emergency helpline 999 and brought the situation under control, the OC said.

The case accuses the attackers of trespassing, extortion, vandalism, intimidation and issuing threats. Imon has been named as the alleged instigator, while 70 to 80 unidentified people have also been accused, Mosharraf said.

One suspect was arrested on Wednesday night and sent to court, while another was arrested during a special operation on Thursday afternoon, he added.
