Police have submitted a charge sheet against four persons in connection with the murder of Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, 13, the only child of Comilla University associate professor Dr Nahida Begum.

The charge sheet was submitted to the court on October 20, Cumilla Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin and Finance) Lutfar Rahman confirmed on Friday morning.

According to the charge sheet, the attackers hit Apratim on the head with a bamboo stick and killed him when he resisted their attempt to snatch his mobile phone. Saiful Islam Tuhin, Muzaffar Hossain Fahad, and Kamrul Hasan were directly charged with the murder, while Siam was accused of involvement in the planning.

Police investigation revealed that Tuhin took Apratim to a secluded forested area in Sananda near the Lalmai Hills on the afternoon of September 18. When Tuhin tried to snatch Apratim's mobile phone, a scuffle ensued. At one stage, Tuhin first, and later Fahad and Kamrul, hit Apratim on the head with a bamboo stick, causing his death.

After recovering the body, police identified Tuhin from CCTV footage of the surrounding area. Tuhin was taken into custody and interrogated. Based on his information, police detained Fahad and Kamrul and recovered Apratim's mobile phone during a raid at Tuhin's residence.

Police said Tuhin, Fahad, and Kamrul fled the scene with the mobile phone after ensuring Apratim's death.

The victim was a Class VII student at Border Guard Public School in Cumilla. His father, KM Firoz Shahriar, is a mobile phone trader.

KM Firoz Shahriar, the plaintiff and victim's father, expressed his grief and demanded speedy justice, hoping that the court will give the perpetrators maximum punishment so that the accused cannot escape due to age limits.
