More than 300 tourists escaped unharmed after a fire broke out at The Sea Princess residential hotel at Sugandha Point in Cox’s Bazar on Friday afternoon.

The fire started in the hotel’s ground-floor parking area around 4:00 PM on October 23. All guests were evacuated safely after the incident.

A unit of the Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the scene and brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes with the help of hotel staff. The fire damaged the parking area, including a generator, and several other sections.

Syed Mohammad Morshed Hossain, deputy assistant director of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence, said a short circuit in the generator was suspected to have caused the fire. No casualties were reported.

Abdul Kader, managing director of The Sea Princess, said the hotel had adequate firefighting arrangements and its staff helped prevent a major accident.

The incident comes less than a week after a fire at the Tuptup Resort in Inani, Ukhiya, on October 17 killed 10 tourists.
