The intercity train Mahanagar Express will start operating on a new route starting next Monday (October 26).

Moving beyond its regular Dhaka-Chittagong route, the train will now extend passenger services all the way to Cox's Bazar, following a revised schedule.

Abu Bakkar Siddique, manager of the Chittagong Railway Station, confirmed the matter on Friday (October 23).

According to his information, Railway Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam will inaugurate the train's maiden journey to Cox's Bazar from Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station at 8:30 PM on Monday (October 26). The train is scheduled to reach Chittagong at 3:00 AM and depart for Cox's Bazar at 3:20 AM.

Eastern Railway sources said that with the extension of the Mahanagar Express to Cox's Bazar, passengers from intermediate stations-including Dhaka Airport, Narsingdi, Bhairab Bazar, Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, Akhaura, Kasba, Comilla, Laksam, Nangalkot, and Feni-will now have the opportunity to travel to Cox's Bazar by train. Authorities expect this to boost tourist arrivals at the world's longest unbroken sea beach and increase railway revenue.

Previously, passengers from these districts were deprived of direct train travel to Cox's Bazar as the existing Cox's Bazar Express and Paryatan Express operated as non-stop services. The Mahanagar Express on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route will feature 16 coaches with a seating capacity ranging between 706 and 736. The train's weekly day off will be Sunday.

Chittagong Railway Station Manager Abu Bakkar Siddique stated that all preparations have been completed for the operation of the new train on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route.

According to the new schedule, the Mahanagar Express is scheduled to leave Dhaka at 8:30 PM and arrive in Cox's Bazar at 6:00 AM the following morning. On the return trip, it will leave Cox's Bazar at 8:00 AM, reach Chittagong at 12:20 PM, and arrive in Dhaka at 6:30 PM. Ticket sales for the new route began on October 16.
