Cross-border trade between Bangladesh and India through the Benapole Land Port resumed on Saturday morning after an eight-day closure for the Sharadiya Durga Puja festival.
Goods transportation between the two neighboring countries returned to normal starting at 9:00 am. However, cross-border movement of passport-holding passengers remained uninterrupted throughout the holiday period.
According to Benapole Land Port sources, 35 Indian cargo trucks entered Bangladesh, while 11 Bangladeshi trucks crossed into India during the first hour of operation between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Saturday.
Port officials noted that under normal circumstances, around 500 trucks of imported goods enter Bangladesh through Benapole daily, while nearly 200 trucks of goods are exported to India.
Badruzzaman Boni, general secretary of the Benapole C&F Staff Association, confirmed that import-export activities remained suspended for eight days due to the official Durga Puja public holidays, adding that full commercial operations resumed Saturday morning.
Benapole Land Port Acting Director Ruhul Amin also confirmed the resumption, stating that regular bilateral trade operations officially restarted following the eight-day break.
