The body of engineer Nazmul Huda Nion, 38, was recovered from the Ghagot River in Gaibandha on Saturday, three days after he went missing while bathing.

Fire Service divers recovered the body around 3pm from the river near Kajaldhop Ferry Ghat in Ballamjhar union of Gaibandha Sadar upazila.

Nion, son of Moazzem Hossain of Pashchimpara in Gaibandha town, worked for a private company in Dhaka and had returned home for the Durga Puja holiday.

Family members and locals said he went to bathe in the river on Thursday with his brother-in-law, nephew and two daughters. While others managed to return to the bank, Nion went missing.

Fire Service teams launched a search operation, later joined by divers from Rangpur. After unsuccessful searches on Thursday and Friday, the team resumed the operation on Saturday morning and recovered his body in the afternoon.

Gaibandha Fire Service Station Officer Rifat Al Mamun confirmed the recovery, saying the body would be handed over to the family after legal formalities.
