AC Land's facebook post: 'UNO responsible for my death'

Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Jamalganj upazila in Sunamganj, Md Arifur Rahman Shanto, posted a Facebook message blaming the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), Shilpi Rani Modak, for his death, triggering concern in the area.

The post was published from a Facebook account named ‘AC Land Jamalganj’ late on Friday (October 23) night. Another post from the account stated, “I resign from the administration cadre.”

UNO Shilpi Rani Modak said Shanto had behaved abnormally after attending her three-year-old daughter’s birthday celebration on Friday night. She alleged that he assaulted an Ansar member and threatened to kill her daughter after leaving her residence.

Jamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bande Ali Mia said police and others went to Shanto’s residence after seeing the Facebook posts. As his condition did not improve, arrangements were made to send him to Sylhet for medical treatment at around 1AM on Saturday.

After receiving initial treatment in Sylhet, Shanto was taken to Dhaka by his family for further medical care.

Shanto has been serving as the assistant commissioner (land) in Jamalganj for around two months.
