Real Madrid’s official television channel has renewed its criticism of refereeing ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico, claiming Barcelona have benefited from controversial decisions in their recent meetings.

With more than 24 hours remaining before the clash at Camp Nou, the channel highlighted comparisons involving red cards, disallowed goals and penalties, also referring to the controversial Negreira case.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Real Madrid TV began its argument by comparing player dismissals since 2000. The channel claimed 12 Barcelona players had been sent off during the period, compared with 23 Real Madrid players.

It also cited incidents involving Sergio Busquets, Gavi and Frenkie de Jong, arguing that some of their challenges should have resulted in red cards.

The channel then compared disallowed goals, claiming Barcelona had seen four goals ruled out against them, while Real Madrid had 20 disallowed. It alleged that some decisions had unfairly denied Real Madrid goals while allowing Barcelona goals to stand.

Real Madrid TV also questioned decisions involving offside and fouls in the build-up to goals, arguing that Barcelona had been allowed goals that should have been ruled out, while some of Real Madrid’s legitimate goals had been disallowed.

The channel further claimed that Real Madrid had been denied penalties while Barcelona had received spot-kicks for incidents it considered questionable.

In a pointed remark about the impact of the footage on supporters, the channel said watching the clips could be harmful to Real Madrid fans’ health because of the alleged irregularities.

It concluded its criticism by referring to the Negreira case, accusing Barcelona of being the club that paid money.

Juan Martinez Munuera has been appointed to referee Sunday’s El Clasico, with Javier Iglesias Villanueva serving as the video assistant referee (VAR).

Munuera will officiate his fifth El Clasico. Real Madrid have won three of the previous four matches he has refereed, while Barcelona have won one.
