Two persons were electrocuted in separate incidents in Singra Upazila of Natore District and Bagerhat District in two days.
SINGRA, NATORE: Kamal Sarkar, 25, a resident of Parera Village in Chougram Union of the upazila, was electrocuted at about 9 am on Saturday after becoming entangled in an electrical wire connected to an irrigation pump on farmland belonging to a neighbour, a farmer identified as Alauddin. He was taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singra Police Station (PS) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the death, saying legal action was being taken in accordance with the law.
BAGERHAT: A 55-year-old day labourer was electrocuted after coming into contact with an illegally electrified fishing net in a wetland in Kachua Upazila of the district on Friday night. His body was allegedly concealed under water hyacinths in a nearby canal to hide the incident.
The victim, Amzad Sheikh, son of Jalil Sheikh, was fishing with a traditional trap in a field near his home in Pratappur Village when he accidentally touched the net and died on the spot, according to family members and local residents.
They alleged that Mahbub Molla, also known as Felu, who had set the illegal net and connected it to electricity, moved the body to the canal later that night.
After Amzad failed to return home, relatives searched for him through the night. His body was found under water hyacinths around 6 am on Saturday, south of Molla’s house. Police recovered it and sent it to Bagerhat District Hospital for an autopsy.
Kachua PS OC Al Mamun said the victim’s wife, Nasima Begum, was preparing to file a case against Molla.
