A coach of the Dolonchapa Express derailed near Badarganj Railway Station in Rangpur on Saturday (October 24), halting train services on the Parbatipur-Rangpur route. Angry passengers allegedly assaulted the train's driver, Rafiqul Islam, and guard, Bazlul Haque, following the incident.
Four wheels of a coach came off the tracks, disrupting rail services and leaving passengers stranded. Some passengers left the train and arranged alternative transport to reach their destinations.
Witnesses claimed that bamboo and firewood placed on the railway tracks might have caused the derailment. However, the exact cause had not been independently confirmed.
Badarganj Station Master Imrul Kayes said train services would resume after a rescue train arrived from Parbatipur. The rescue train had yet to reach the site at the time of reporting.
