Cold fog and chilly northern winds are signaling the arrival of winter in Panchagarh, as temperatures gradually drop across the northern border district.

The minimum temperature in the district was recorded at 17.4 degrees Celsius early Sunday (October 25), signaling a clear onset of the winter season in the region.

Jitendra Nath Roy, officer-in-charge of the Tetulia Weather Observatory, confirmed the temperature reading.

According to data from the observatory, while the minimum temperature dropped to 17.4 degrees Celsius early Sunday, the maximum temperature recorded the previous day was 31.8 degrees Celsius. This indicates that despite hot sunshine during the day, the weather changes rapidly after midnight, bringing a noticeable winter chill to daily life.

Local residents reported that ceiling fans are no longer needed at night, with many using light quilts or thin blankets after midnight. Fog in the early morning sky and dew drops glistening on grass leaves further mark the seasonal shift. The cool morning breeze blowing from the north has prompted stone extraction workers to enter the river wearing light warm clothes, while tea garden workers face cold dew on tea leaves.

Jitendra Nath Roy stated that inactive seasonal winds have triggered the winter atmosphere in the area. Although morning fog appears early, it clears as the day progresses. He noted that the drop to 17.4 degrees Celsius marks the beginning of a gradual decline in temperatures over the coming days.
