Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shah Alam on Sunday (October 25) denied nominating Abdus Salam for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral post, saying he had neither nominated anyone nor announced a BNP-backed candidate.
He made the clarification while responding to journalists after a bicycle distribution programme at Shibganj Government Pilot Girls' High School in Bogura at around 11:30AM.
The state minister said he had only expressed support for Abdus Salam and local councillor Tipu if they contested the next city corporation election.
He said the new law did not allow party symbols in local government elections, adding that the BNP's central leadership and National Standing Committee would decide whom to support for the mayoral post.
