Bus services on the Kishoreganj-Mohakhali route have been suspended indefinitely due to a dispute among transport owners, leaving passengers travelling between Kishoreganj and Dhaka in difficulty.
The suspension began on Sunday morning at the Gaital Bus Terminal in Kishoreganj district town.
Anisuzzaman Babul, convener of the Kishoreganj District Road Transport Owners Association, said a long-running dispute with transport owners in the Mohakhali area had recently escalated over the supply of old buses and the closure of ticket counters.
He alleged that transport owners in Mohakhali were not cooperating with them and were attempting to supply old buses through intermediaries. As other transport operators in Kishoreganj have introduced new buses, they are unwilling to accept the older vehicles, he said.
Babul added that ticket counters were being closed over the dispute, and repeated incidents had forced them to suspend bus services.
He said the matter had been brought to the attention of higher authorities and the local member of parliament. The district administration had invited the parties concerned to a meeting at 1:00 PM on Sunday to resolve the dispute.
The sudden suspension has left passengers travelling between Kishoreganj and Dhaka searching for alternative transport, particularly those with urgent travel needs.
According to sources, 237 buses have been taken off the route, including 50 operated by Anannya Paribahan, 57 by Anannya Classic, 100 by Jalshiri and 30 by Ujanbhati.
