Students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have announced they will return to classes and examinations on Wednesday (October 28), ending a 34-day academic deadlock on campus.
However, student representatives emphasized that the decision does not signify an end to their ongoing movement demanding the reinstatement of former Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem.
In a press statement issued on Sunday (October 25), students explained that the decision to resume academic activities was taken to prevent further academic losses and session jams, and does not constitute acceptance or recognition of the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam.
The statement noted that faculty members responded positively to an open letter issued by students requesting the restoration of a suitable academic environment, expressing willingness to resume classes following mutual discussions.
Students firmly clarified that returning to classes should not be interpreted as accepting the new VC's leadership. They warned that if Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam attempts to enter the campus or assume executive VC duties on-site, they will immediately reinstate a complete academic shutdown and boycott all classes and examinations.
The student body urged the university administration and government authorities to respect their cooperative step toward maintaining academic continuity while taking immediate measures to resolve the administrative crisis by reinstating Professor Sayem.
