Ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will face due legal process and trial—not mob justice or illegal actions—if she returns to the country, Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Jahed Ur Rahman said on Tuesday (October 27).

Speaking at a press briefing on government progress and current affairs, Dr. Jahed addressed queries regarding the former prime minister's potential return and safety, alongside recent security incidents including an attack on the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) office.

"If she returns, she will face the legal process," Dr. Jahed said. "She will not face any mob or illegal situation. Any accountability regarding her actions must take place strictly through the judicial system."

Cautioning against speculation over specific timelines for her return, the adviser noted that setting arbitrary dates only fuels endless conjecture.

Drawing a historical comparison with former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad following the 1990 political transition, Dr. Jahed highlighted that Ershad remained in the country, faced judicial proceedings, served prison time, and subsequently participated in elections.

Addressing concerns regarding law enforcement readiness following the recent vandalism at the CPB headquarters in Paltan, the adviser emphasized that intelligence agencies continuously work behind the scenes to thwart security threats before they escalate.

"The police and intelligence apparatus operate preemptively to prevent numerous crimes that the general public never sees," Dr. Jahed explained, adding that while transitioning the national economy and public infrastructure back to complete normalcy requires time, the government remains proactive in taking firm action whenever untoward incidents occur.

In response to media inquiries regarding a potential official visit by the Prime Minister to India, Dr. Jahed urged against speculative reporting, noting that no official announcement has been issued by the government regarding such a trip.
