A violent clash broke out between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the Shibbari area of Gazipur on Tuesday (October 27) during a Juba Dal anniversary rally, resulting in an attack on a Somoy TV photojournalist and the snatching of his memory card.

Eyewitnesses reported that two separate processions—led by Gazipur Metropolitan Juba Dal Member Secretary Mahmud Hasan Raju and Senior Joint Convener Imran Reza—arrived at Shibbari to join the central program marking the organization's founding anniversary.

An altercation erupted between the supporters of the two leaders over taking front positions in the joint rally, which quickly escalated into a physical clash.

Somoy TV photojournalist Md Arif was recording the incident when he was attacked, and his camera was forcibly taken. Although the camera was later returned following intervention, the memory card containing footage of the incident was missing.

The assault and interference with professional duties triggered widespread anger and indignation among local journalists in Gazipur, who strongly condemned the incident and demanded action against those responsible.
