Police recovered the decomposed body of a 22-year-old man from a pond in Fulbaria village of Lakhai upazila in Habiganj on Tuesday night, six days after he went missing.

The victim, Tarek Mia, was allegedly murdered by his friend Sahel over the latter’s desire to take his iPhone 11, according to police and local sources.

Tarek was the son of Marfat Ullah of Chausatpur village in Nabiganj upazila. Sahel is the son of Nuruzzaman Mia from the same village.

According to police and local sources, Tarek and Sahel went to the house of Surur Rahman in Fulbaria village on October 21 to work as construction workers.

During their work, Sahel allegedly became interested in Tarek’s iPhone 11. Preliminary information suggests that Sahel lured Tarek away on the night of October 22 and slit his throat.

He allegedly dumped the body in a nearby pond to conceal the crime before fleeing the area.

Meanwhile, after Tarek failed to return home, his family filed a general diary (GD) with Nabiganj Police Station.
