The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal celebrated its 48th founding anniversary across the country on Tuesday with rallies, discussion meetings, free medical camps, blood donation drives and other welfare activities.
Programmes were held in Dhaka and all districts, including Naogaon, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Tangail and Barishal.
In Dhaka, BNP acting secretary general and Prime Minister’s political adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi inaugurated a free medical camp and blood donation programme in front of the party’s central office in Naya Paltan.
Rizvi said Jubo Dal had played an important role in the country’s democratic movements and struggles since its formation by late president Ziaur Rahman.
He said the organisation should play a leading role in implementing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s vision of a “humane Bangladesh” by developing young people’s skills, involving them in national production and development, and supporting disadvantaged people.
Rizvi urged Jubo Dal leaders and activists to continue humanitarian work, including blood donation and tree plantation. He also called on them to maintain discipline, avoid internal conflicts and refrain from activities that could damage the party’s image.
Earlier, Jubo Dal leaders and activists paid tribute at the graves of Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia by placing floral wreaths. Quran recitation and special prayers were also held.
The programme was presided over by central Jubo Dal president Abdul Monayem Munna and conducted by its general secretary, Nurul Islam Nayan. BNP joint secretary general and lawmaker Abdus Salam Azad, along with other central and metropolitan leaders, attended.
In Raninagar, Naogaon, the local unit organised a rally, discussion meeting, prayer session and distribution of food and tree saplings among disadvantaged people. The rally started in front of the upazila BNP office and ended at the Zila Parishad Auditorium.
In Kurigram, a rally from the district BNP office paraded the main roads and ended at Doyel Chattar, where speakers highlighted Jubo Dal’s role in the struggle for democracy and people’s rights.
In Gaibandha, leaders called for unity to restore democracy, protect voting rights and reform the state structure at a rally and discussion meeting.
In Ishwarganj, Mymensingh, the district and municipal units organised separate rallies. In Jamalpur, the anniversary was marked by a rally, discussion meeting and the release of fish fry into a pond at a local orphanage.
In Sirajganj, a youth gathering at Islamia Government College was followed by a rally through the town. In Barishal, the district and metropolitan units held separate rallies and gatherings, while a free medical camp was also organised.
Across the country, Jubo Dal leaders urged activists to remain united, maintain discipline and engage in public welfare activities.
