A mild heatwave is currently sweeping through 39 districts across Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as Pabna, Sirajganj, Cumilla, Chandpur, Feni, Lakshmipur, Bhola, and Barishal districts, but conditions are expected to abate with nationwide rain, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Wednesday (October 28).
In a weather bulletin signed by meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir, the BMD forecast temporary gusty or squally winds with rain or thundershowers at one or two places across all eight divisions—Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet—over the next 24 hours starting from 9:00AM on Wednesday.
Regarding the synoptic situation, the Met Office stated that the extremely severe cyclonic storm "Arnab" over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas moved west-northwestwards, completed its landfall across the Andhra Pradesh coast of India on Wednesday morning, and currently lies over Andhra Pradesh and adjoining coastal areas. It is expected to move further northwestwards and gradually weaken.
The weather bulletin added that day and night temperatures across the country may drop slightly during this period as the rain activity helps mitigate the ongoing heatwave conditions.
