In Magura, a retired secretary and former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kushtia, Md. Abul Khayer, 77, was allegedly attacked after he objected to a motorcycle being parked in a way that blocked the road in front of his home. His driver, Kamal Hossain, 42, was also injured while attempting to protect him. A case has been filed at the Magura Sadar Police Station, naming an individual identified as Unmesh, 40, as the primary accused.
The incident occurred on Monday (October 26) around 1:00 PM in the alley near Primary School No. 3, opposite the Sonali Bank branch in the Collegepara area of Magura town, right in front of the retired secretary’s residence.
According to the case statement and local sources, Abul Khayer had arrived at his home in Magura from Dhaka that morning. Later, around 11:30 AM, he left his house by car, heading to the Social Welfare Office for official business. At that time, he noticed a motorcycle parked in a way that obstructed the narrow road in front of his home. When he asked for the motorcycle to be moved, an argument ensued with the owner, Unmesh.
Upon returning home around 1:00 PM after finishing his work, he found the same motorcycle parked in the same spot, once again blocking the road. Abul Khayer stated that when he requested that the motorcycle be moved, the accused, Unmesh, was enraged.
The complaint further alleges that as the car reached the main gate of his residence, the accused demanded that Abul Khayer roll down the car window. As soon as Khayer lowered the window, expecting a dialogue, the accused began raining punches and blows upon him. It is alleged that, at one point, the accused struck him on the head with a brick, intending to kill him. This caused a deep cut above his right eye, resulting in significant bleeding.
When his driver, Kamal Hossain, the household caretaker Aliul Islam (35), and others present in the vehicle stepped in to protect Abul Khayer, the attackers allegedly threw bricks and stones at them as well. The driver, Kamal Hossain, sustained injuries during this altercation.
The case statement notes that when people from the surrounding area arrived at the scene, the accused fled, leaving behind threats to kill the victims. Following the incident, the injured Abul Khayer and his driver were rescued with the help of locals and taken to the 250-bed Magura Hospital, where they received medical treatment. A case has been filed at the Magura Sadar Police Station in connection with the attack on the retired secretary.
