Nagad, the mobile financial service of the Bangladesh Postal Department, has partnered with ONE Bank PLC to expand digital financial services, enabling customers to receive remittances directly in their Nagad wallets and exploring options for digital loan and savings instalment payments.

The agreement was signed recently at ONE Bank’s corporate headquarters in Gulshan, Dhaka, by Nagad Chief Commercial Officer Mohummed Shahin Sarwar Bhuiyan and ONE Bank Deputy Managing Director Kazi Ziaul Islam on behalf of their respective organisations.

Under the partnership, remittances sent by expatriate Bangladeshis through ONE Bank will be transferred to Nagad wallets, making it easier for customers, particularly those in rural and remote areas, to access funds around the clock. Expatriates will be able to send money home through international exchange houses, money transfer operators (MTOs) and banks.

The two institutions will also explore the feasibility of enabling customers to pay monthly deposit pension scheme (DPS) instalments and equated monthly instalments (EMIs) for various loan products, including ONE Bank’s nano loans, through Nagad in the future.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Nagad Chief Commercial Officer Mohummed Shahin Sarwar Bhuiyan said the partnership would further expand the reach of digital financial services and allow customers, especially those in remote areas, to receive and use remittances conveniently. He expressed hope that introducing loan and DPS instalment payment facilities would make everyday financial transactions easier.

ONE Bank Deputy Managing Director Kazi Ziaul Islam said Nagad’s extensive nationwide network could help extend financial services to areas where opening bank branches was not feasible. He added that the bank aimed to introduce customer-focused services by assessing the feasibility of offering its nano loan service through Nagad’s digital platform.

The ceremony was attended by Md Ahsanul Hoque Bashar, head of Remittance at Nagad, and Senior Managers Shah Imran and Paik Ikbal Hossain. Senior officials representing ONE Bank included Deputy Managing Director Iftekhar Ahmed Zafar, EVP and Head of Public Sector (Liability) A K M Salah Uddin Khan, SVP and In-charge of the International Division Choudhury Maksudul Haq, VP and Head of Public Sector (Cash Management) Asma Noorjahan, and SAVP and In-charge of the Remittance Unit A K M Abdullah-Al-Mamun, among others.
