Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Delawar Hossain has raised concerns over the absence of photographs on identity cards worn by presiding officers at polling centres during the by-election in Thakurgaon-1.
He made the allegation after casting his vote at Adarsha School in Ward No. 5 of Thakurgaon Municipality at around 8:30AM on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters, he said the identity card displayed by the presiding officer at the polling centre did not contain a photograph. He also claimed that the cards worn by assistant presiding officers lacked photographs.
“If the presiding officer's card does not have a photograph, how can we be sure that he is the person assigned to the post? Someone else could potentially impersonate him,” Hossain said, describing the matter as deeply concerning.
The Jamaat candidate's remarks raised questions about the verification of polling officials' identities during the by-election.
No response from the election authorities regarding the allegation was immediately available.
