Garment workers from several factories blocked the Mirpur-10 roundabout in the capital on Thursday morning, demanding payment of their wages and benefits, disrupting traffic in the busy area.
The workers staged the road blockade at around 9:30AM, bringing traffic movement through the intersection to a temporary halt.
Sazia Afroz, assistant commissioner of police for the Pallabi Traffic Zone, confirmed the blockade, saying workers from several garment factories had occupied the intersection to press their demands for wages and benefits. However, she could not immediately identify the factories involved.
In a post on its official Facebook page, the Mirpur Traffic Division also reported temporary traffic disruption at the Mirpur-10 roundabout due to the garment workers’ protest.
The blockade caused inconvenience to commuters travelling through the area, while traffic movement remained affected amid the demonstration.
Further details about the workers’ specific demands and the duration of the blockade were not immediately available.
