Two children drown in Pond

Two five-year-old boys drowned in a pond near their home in Roumari of Kurigram on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the Char Bamnerchar area of Sadar Union in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as children Md. Naim, son of Nabi Chand, and Md. Abdullah, son of Suruj Mia. Both were residents of the Char Bamnerchar area of Roumari Sadar Union.

Locals said, the two children were playing in front of their home on Thursday afternoon. When their family members could not find them, they began searching for the boys. At one point, the children were found in a pond near their home and rescued.

They were taken to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared them dead.

Dr Abdus Samad, Roumari Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said the children had died before they were brought to the health complex.

Roumari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kawsar Ali said he had not received any complaint regarding the incident. He added that necessary action would be taken if a complaint was filed.
