A four-year-old girl was found dead near a brick kiln in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj, while her father died at a hospital after being attacked with sharp weapons in the same incident.
The deceased child was identified as Toyaba Akter, while her father, Golap Hossain, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday around noon.
Police recovered the child's body from an abandoned plot near Molla Bricks in Ramkrishnadi village under Latabdi Union around 9:00am on Thursday. The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police and local sources, Golap lived in Doshorpara village under Latabdi Union. His father, Zainal Mia, had been working at a brick kiln in the Ramkrishnadi area for the past five years.
Golap was returning home with his daughter after visiting his father around 5:00pm on Wednesday when they came under attack. The attackers allegedly killed the child and left her body in an abandoned plot near the brick kiln before repeatedly striking Golap with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued Golap and admitted him to Swadesh Hospital in Abdullapur, Keraniganj, Dhaka. He was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where he died on Thursday.
Sirajdikhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Alauddin said a land dispute was suspected to have prompted the attack.
