Road movement in Sajek, a popular tourist destination in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila, remained suspended for the ninth consecutive day on Friday.
Protesters set fires at several points along the road to show support for the ongoing blockade and demanded the implementation of their five-point demands.
The indefinite blockade was called by the Sajek Public Rights Protection Committee and Sajek Karbari Association, demanding, among other things, the removal of armed personnel from the area.
The blockade has halted tourist movement, leaving resorts, cottages, hotels and local businesses largely inactive.
Tourism-dependent traders, transport workers and residents are facing financial losses, while concerns are growing over supplies of essential food items and medicines.
The administration has initiated talks with the concerned parties to resolve the crisis, but no visible breakthrough has been achieved so far.
