Banned AL leader arrested while hiding in paddy field

The general secretary of the banned Awami League’s Shakhahar union unit in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj upazila was arrested from a paddy field in Joypurhat’s Kalai upazila early Friday (October 30), where he had been hiding to evade arrest.
Haji Majnu Sarker, 46, was arrested by the Gaibandha District Detective Branch (DB) of police during an operation based on a tip-off.
Police said Majnu had taken shelter in a paddy field in a border area to avoid law enforcement agencies. He is the son of late Nasir Sarker of Ali village in Shakhahar union.
Confirming the arrest, Gaibandha DB Officer-in-Charge Abdul Mottalib Sarker said police arrested Majnu while he was hiding in the field. He added that he would be handed over to Gobindaganj police after completion of legal procedures.
