West Indies captain Roston Chase emerged as one of the most influential figures in the first Test against Bangladesh, producing a valuable all-round performance to turn the contest in his side's favour on the third day in Mirpur.

Chase remained unbeaten on 43 as West Indies were dismissed for 245 in their first innings, just 27 runs behind Bangladesh's total of 272. He then returned to trouble the hosts with the ball, claiming three wickets in Bangladesh's second innings to leave them struggling at 79 for six at stumps.

His contribution with the bat came at an important stage after West Indies resumed the day at 134 for four. The visitors needed to build a substantial partnership to avoid falling too far behind, and Chase helped Justin Greaves add 51 runs for the sixth wicket.

Greaves scored 46 before falling to Nayeem Hasan, but Chase continued to resist as Bangladesh's spinners worked through the lower order. His unbeaten innings ensured West Indies kept the deficit within manageable limits.

The captain then made an even greater impact with the ball. After Shamar Joseph dismissed Tanzid Hasan for a duck, Chase broke Bangladesh's resistance by removing first-innings centurion Shadman Islam for 13 and Towhid Hridoy for a duck in the same over. He later dismissed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 10.

Those breakthroughs left Bangladesh reeling at 34 for four and shifted the pressure firmly onto the home side.
Jomel Warrican supported Chase by taking two wickets, including Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, as West Indies tightened their grip on the match.

Chase's contribution has been central to the visitors' recovery. His ability to contribute runs under pressure and then exploit the conditions with his off-spin has given West Indies a strong opportunity to take control of the opening Test.

With Bangladesh holding an overall lead of only 106 runs and four wickets remaining, the West Indies captain will have every reason to believe his side can take advantage on the fourth day.
